Our Staff



The GMZC staff consists of residents who devote their free time to supporting the teachers in the delivery of Zen Center programming.



Michael Mui Lewis



Priest, Dharma Holder, Senior Student



Mui is a resident at Maitreya Abbey and began formal Zen training in 2003 at Great Vow Zen Monastery. He continued in residence at Yokoji Zen Mountain Center until 2006 and then moved to Boulder, CO for graduate school and to continue training at GMZC. Mui was ordained a novice priest in 2008 and a priest in 2017. He is an Associate Member of the Soto Zen Buddhist Association (SZBA). Mui works as a psychotherapist and addiction counselor in Boulder, CO, and has a graduate degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa University and an undergraduate degree in Experiential Education from Appalachian State University. He is an IFMGA Mountain Guide and was an Outward Bound instructor. Mui has been practicing meditation and Yoga since the early 90s. He leads retreats and courses at GMZC and other venues and supports the teachers in the facilitation of GMZC programming, including management of the GMZC website and interacting with guests as one of the registrars.





Elizabeth Koren Grahn



Novice Priest



Koren was born in Maryland and grew up in the forests of Northwestern Washington State. She was home-schooled and began learning meditation from her mother, her first spiritual teacher, when she was 12. After growing up, Koren followed a self-guided spiritual path until 2009 when she began Zen practice with Sean Tetsudo Murphy, Sensei in Taos, New Mexico. She became a formal student of Shishin Roshi and Roshi Shinko in 2012 and ordained as a novice priest in 2018. Koren is an Associate Member of the Soto Zen Buddhist Association (SZBA). Koren works as a tax accountant in Boulder, Colorado.
